Perfect combination of 3 days Atlas Berber valleys trek & 3 days desert tour which will take you to the Moroccan Chamonix “Imlil” from where you will take walks and explore the berber villages prior to travel over the Atlas Mountain on the following days to get to Dades gorges for 1st stop, carry on to Merzouga where you will have a camel ride and overnight on the nomadic dunes then drive back through the stony desert “ Tazarine” via Ouarzazate and into Marrakech
For Trekking Atlas Mountains you need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Please do not leave any rubbish behind you; carry out what you carry in.
Atlas Treks are tailored to match the season and your level of fitness. You have the choice of basing yourself in Berber Guesthouses, from where you can take daily walks, or you can Atlas Mule Trek for 2+ days. On mule treks you usually have the choice of staying in Berber Guesthouse/with families or wild camping in 2-person tents. In addition to regular packing, here is a Check List for Atlas Trekking:
After breakfast at your accommodation in Marrakech, Transfers take you to Imlil valley where you will start your combined trek, The first day is 5-6 hours walking and will take you from Imlil (1740m), to Tizi n’ Tamatert (2300m), to Tachdirt. There will be lunch on the pass after Tizi n’ Tamatert before you head to the last village, Tachdirt or Tinghourine, and spend the night in a guesthouse.
The second day will bring you 6-7 hours of trekking and take you from Tinghourine/Tachdirt to Ikkis, Aguersiwal (2100m) and to Matat to Ait Aissa. The route takes you by other picturesque villages and along the Oudit Pass (2200m). In the evening in the Ait Aissa, there is a gite to stay in and a steam bath (hamam) if you would like to use it.
The third day is 6hours will take us first to visit the beggest waterfalls in the Toubkal National park ,then join the path that goes over Mzik pass 2500m with fantastic view over the Ait Mizan valley, lunch in Mzzik and trek dwon to imlil, night in our Guest house ( private rooms with private facilities),including Dinner and breakfast.
On day 4, you and your party will transfer to the World Heritage site at Ait Benhaddou, which has provided the scenery for over 20 films. You will pass lots of spectacular views and beautiful villages before you get to the desert, at which point the scenery will transform into riversides of oases and kasbahs. Upon your arrival at the Valley Of The Roses, a Moroccan dinner will be waiting for you in a beautiful hotel in Dades.
After your breakfast at the hotel, you and your group will transfer to the Todra Gorge, a gigantic fault line that divides the Atlas Mountains as a narrow valley peppered with Berber villages and rises to 300m. After your lunch, you will head deeper into the desert, to a tiny village called Merzouga, where you will trek overnight with the camels (you will get to sleep, do not worry!) to the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes – the highest dunes in Morocco. You will then ride your camels for an hour and a half at sunset and sleep under the stars at a desert camp after a welcome Berber meal.
The final day will present you with wonderful views of sunrise in the desert. You will then Morning journey by camel back to meet the driver in Merzouga and then to Marrakech to arrive in the evening
A group of 6 friends decided to go with Trekking Toubkal Company for our trip to the Atlas Valley & Sahara desert tour and we certainly have no regrets.
I would recommend this trek and company to anyone wanting to do combined trek in Morocco.
